Utilization

3D models offer an unprecedented understanding of complex anatomy, critical for carrying out high-risk, complex procedures.

Our program’s highlights since August 2018 include:

  • Over 500 3D modeling cases
  • Over 250 3D-printed medical models that assist surgical or other procedural planning
  • 2 intraoperative EchoPixel cases
  • Assistance with out-of-state or international referrals
  • Virtual ventricular assist device placement (a first for UCSF)
  • Creating models for percutaneous procedure planning – models that allow our Interventional Radiology specialists to pre-shape catheters for challenging anatomies
  • Ex-utero intrapartum treatment (EXIT) procedure planning for high-risk fetal cases

We have active collaborations with a growing number of subspecialties throughout UCSF, including:

  • Orthopaedics
  • Pediatric Cardiology
  • Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Adult Cardiology
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Interventional Radiology
  • Pediatric Surgery
  • Surgical Oncology
